Building for better broilers

Building for better broilers

By Katy Moore, Midwest Messenger Field Editor Jul 5, 2018

If you’re looking for a new livestock project, the moment may be prime for cashing in on chickens.

With construction already underway at several sites, Lincoln Premium Poultry is looking for more producers interested in expanding their operations with broiler houses to supply the Costco poultry processing plant in Fremont, Neb. Though construction slots have been filled for the 2018 house builds, several in 2019 are up for grabs, and the timing is just right to claim one — in more ways than one, according to LPP grower engagement manager Willow Holoubek.

“It’s a great opportunity for farmers to diversify,” Holoubek said. “In times of low commodity prices, it’s sometimes hard to generate cash flow. (This opportunity) has an investment, but also cash flows on its own — and it helps keep the next generation home, or (helps) bring the next generation home.”

Money in hand isn’t the only reason many farmers have already signed up for the job, though.
