Board of Supervisors Approve Permit for New Livestock Feeding Operation

FREMONT – The Dodge County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing in concern to a new Livestock Feeding Operation during their regular meeting on Wednesday.

Colton Schafersman, along with his grandparents John and Connie Snover from Hooper, NE applied for a Conditional Use Permit for a new Livestock Feeding Operation 300 to 900 Animal Units. The operation will be for poultry. Many friends, family members, and members of the surrounding communities attended the meeting to support Schafersman. Schafersman is a sixth generation farmer, and says he thinks this is a great opportunity for his family.

“Our farm has been in our family for six generations, and over 125 years. I take immense pride in that,” said Schafersman. “With this permit, I will not only be able to secure my future on the farm, but perhaps a seventh generation with my son, too. We have livestock now, and I think I do a pretty good job caring for our animals. This permit will allow me invest in my family farm, and grow my own operation.”
